Les Cats
King Leisure
Les Cats is King Leisure's debut album — ten songs of acoustic, harmony-led Americana, recorded in their own Studio 2. Eight originals plus a cover each of Lucinda Williams and Tom Waits, the record leans toward the Americana of the Southwest, the kind that suggests wide open desert. Somewhere between Lucinda Williams, Dave Rawlings Machine, and David Bowie.

KING LEISURE
Acoustic, harmony-led Americana from Southern California
King Leisure is Matt Samia and Matt Bailey, a duo from Southern California.
The songs came first. Samia had been building up material that didn't suit Mojave Ghost, the band he and Bailey also play in. It was more acoustic, more country and folk than that group's sound, and it kept accumulating. Meanwhile the two of them had spent a couple of years working out a quieter, harmony-led sound as a duo. Les Cats is what happened when the backlog met the sound.
Ten songs, recorded in their own Studio 2 — a nod to Abbey Road, for anyone who catches it. They name Lucinda Williams, Dave Rawlings Machine and David Bowie as touchstones. What was actually playing while they made it: Lucinda Williams' World Without Tears, Beck's Sea Change, John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings' Time (The Revelator), Tom Waits' Real Gone.
The record leans toward the Americana of the Southwest, the kind that suggests wide open desert.
